Manchester United have marked out Nigeria international forward Kelechi Iheanacho as one of the players to watch in Sunday’s FA Cup quarterfinal tie against Leicester City at the King Power stadium.
In its preview of the game, the Red Devils official website rated the Nigerian as the main danger man after the Super Eagles forward scored three times in Leicester City’s 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United in a Premier League game last weekend.
Iheanacho has now scored five goals in his last three Premier League games and the Man United website made reference to this in its preview.
The website also mentioned veteran forward Jamie Vardy and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as obstacles that could abort the Red Devils’ quest for a third semi-finals appearance in the last four seasons.
Iheanacho has scored 10 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions so far this term with six of the goals coming in 16 Premier League appearances.
Interestingly, Sunday’s game will be the Nigerian’s first against Manchester United in the FA Cup despite playing six times against the Old Trafford outfit.
The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner has scored once and bagged an assist against the Red Devils in five Premier League games. The goal came in Manchester City’s 2-1 away win at Old Trafford in September 2016.
Iheanacho had earlier provided an assist for Kevin De Bruyne in the 15th minute of the game before the Nigerian doubled the advantage 21 minutes later.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic halved the deficit in the 42nd minute in what is now the former Golden Eaglets star’s only victory against the Red Devils.
