Man Utd: Casemiro makes admission supporters will love after meeting Sir Jim Ratcliffe | Football | Sport

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro believes Sir Jim Ratcliffe will spearhead the club’s return to the glory days after meeting the INEOS founder at Carrington. The 31-year-old’s future is uncertain, but he has insisted he is happy at United despite admitting they aren’t currently where they need to be.

Casemiro was a revolutionary addition last season, helping Erik ten Hag lift the Carabao Cup and finish third in the Premier League at the start of his rebuild.

But his form has suffered in a miserable second campaign, pulling his £70million price tag under heavy scrutiny ahead of an overhaul of the sporting structure at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe has reportedly repeated that it’s time to get ruthless to pull United out of their decade-long rut. That could involve offloading high-earning players that don’t suit the club’s vision.

Casemiro is strongly linked with a summer switch to Saudi Arabia as United prepare to cut their losses and fund another busy transfer window.

However, the Brazil captain has stressed his confidence that Ratcliffe is the right man to helm the club, speaking as though he plans to be part of the uprising.

“Of course, he’s [Ratcliffe’s] visited the club. He’s already introduced himself to us,” Casemiro told CNN.

“I think with his winning mentality and his wins in all sports, it’s always very important to have people that want to continue growing.

“With his experience, he’ll return Manchester United to the highest possible level. We are very hungry to learn, grow and take the club to the highest place.”

Casemiro also backed under-fire manager Ten Hag, suggesting that his impressive maiden season was proof that he is capable of taking the club forward.

And the five-time Champions League winner shrugged off speculation over his future, emphasising how much he is enjoying lie in England.

He added: “Of course. I’m very happy at Manchester United. As I’ve always said, the fans have always helped me.

“The club is always good to me. I’m enjoying the Premier League. I’m enjoying the club. Without a doubt, it’s a pleasure for me to play for Manchester United.

“Manchester United is without doubt a big club. It’s not in the best place at this moment in time compared with other clubs like Manchester City or Liverpool.

“However, Manchester United will always be the biggest club in England because of its history, magnitude, and titles.

“So, it was always my challenge to help my team-mates and Manchester United keep growing and, of course, as we all want, return the club to being the best in the world.”
