Manchester United may now just have an advantage in the race for Ruben Neves following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move back to Old Trafford. Not only is CR7’s return to the club a unique selling point when trying to convince future targets to join the club but Jorge Mendes is now back on board with the United hierarchy…
During his days of representing David de Gea, there was plenty of friction between the super-agent and United but those tensions have now died a death following their split.
Mendes approached United last week to propose the idea of re-signing Ronaldo and he clearly played a blinder by using Manchester City’s reported interest to lure the Red Devils in.
As Wolves know well, having Mendes in your corner is a powerful weapon and United could now be set to utilise that once again in the future.
It’s clear that Portuguese midfielder Neves could eventually leave Wolves in the near future after signing for the club back in 2017 and Molineux chiefs did not expect to keep him this summer.
JUST IN: Manchester United missed trick with game-changing signing that was available for £40m
It’s the one department where United are due an upgrade and Neves in the perfect signing.
Mendes is his representative and a deal is there to be done at a reasonable price, too.
It’s understood Wolves would be looking for around £40m to agree to a sale and that’s pocket change to United in the current market.
Neves is an established international player, who is Premier League proven with leadership qualities having already captained Porto in the Champions League.
His skill set makes him a significant upgrade on the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay and Neves would be in esteemed Portuguese company once again at United.
At Wolves, he is currently playing alongside compatriots Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo, Joao Moutinho, Fabio Silva, Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto respectively.
Yet at United he has the chance to elevate things to the next level by teaming up with Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo.
For more reasons than one, Neves is the ideal recruit for United and the club must now look to count on Mendes to help them get a deal done…
