Man Utd transfer news: Man City signing Harry Kane could be blessing in disguise | Football | Sport

It may deal Manchester United’s Premier League title hopes a major blow but if Manchester City sign Harry Kane from Tottenham, it could just prove to be a blessing in disguise for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With less than a week to go in the transfer window, it’s clear United won’t be adding a striker to their ranks despite being urged on by club icon Gary Neville on Monday Night Football.

The Sky Sports pundit has told his former club to go and get Kane to complete what he would deem the perfect summer.

United have of course strengthened their chances of silverware by adding Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to their squad but question marks remain as to whether the Red Devils are ready to keep up the heat after their 1-1 draw at Southampton.

It was the kind of game that highlighted the absence of Edinson Cavani and just how important a reliable, consistent goalscorer can be.

Over the years, Kane has made a habit of winning games on his own for Tottenham while the same applies for Sergio Aguero at City.

Cavani’s deal will be up at the end of next season and the time will be right for United to go big on a striker.

Haaland represents the best value for money and investment for any club looking for a long-term solution at centre-forward.

Problematically though, navigating the other baggage surrounding Mino Raiola and agent fees could prove difficult.

United have already struggled to negotiate with the super-agent when trying to sign Haaland from RB Salzburg in January 2020.

Furthermore, the club’s relationship with Raiola has soured amid Paul Pogba’s ongoing contract situation.

Nonetheless, City signing Kane would still make life easier for United if they wanted to pursue Haaland.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool could also be at the table but given his father Alf-Inge Haaland’s connections to City, they pose the biggest threat to any of these clubs in the race.

United should throw the kitchen sink at landing Haaland next summer because with him leading the line, they stand their best chance ever of winning the title for the first time ever in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
