Man Utd’s ‘contract offer to Cristiano Ronaldo’ as Man City target controversial transfer | Football | Sport

Manchester City are eyeing a sensational deal for Cristiano Ronaldo at the current moment in time. With Harry Kane out of reach, and Juventus open to parting ways with the Portugal international, a move to the Etihad Stadium could take place. But Manchester United can’t be ruled out, with it stated earlier this summer that the Red Devils had actually proposed a contract to their No 7 ahead of a possible return to Old Trafford.

For most of the summer, City have been chasing Kane.

The Tottenham star was Pep Guardiola’s priority target at the start of the window, ahead of Erling Haaland.

However, Kane will now be staying in north London for another year – with the player himself revealing the news on social media earlier today.

In the short time since, links to Ronaldo have arisen.

City are open to signing the Juventus star as they look to retain their Premier League title, especially with Guardiola yet to replace Sergio Aguero.

But United, due to their love of their former No 7, can’t be ruled out either.

Earlier in the summer, shortly before the start of the European Championships, Ronaldo was being linked with a move back to Old Trafford.

Having failed to fire Juventus to Scudetto glory, it seemed as though an emotional homecoming was a possibility.

And La Gazzetta dello Sport even went as far to say the Red Devils had pitched a two-year contract to the veteran, in a bold turn of events.

It was stated the Red Devils had offered him a deal worth €20million per annum, which works out roughly at £17.2m per year, or £330,000-a-week.

That would have made Ronaldo the club’s second highest-earner behind only David De Gea, who pockets a cool £350,000-a-week over at Old Trafford.

But, in the end, everything changed.

United, for all their dreams of having Ronaldo back one day, decided to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund instead.

And, since then, they’ve also eaten into their transfer budget by bringing Raphael Varane to Old Trafford as well.

Ronaldo is still in touch with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has previously labelled the Portugal international as his best-ever team-mate.

But it’s City, now, who seem likelier to snap him up.

Ronaldo appeared to say goodbye to Juventus at the end of May, saying in a statement: “The life and career of any top player are made of ups and downs.

“Year after year, we face fantastic teams, with extraordinary players and ambitious goals, so we always have to give our best to keep ourselves at excellence levels.

“This year we couldn’t win Serie A, congratulations to Inter for the well deserved title.

“However, I have to value everything that we achieved this season at Juventus, both in collective and individual terms. The Italian Super Cup, the Italian Cup and the Serie A Top Scorer trophy fill me with happiness, mainly due to the difficulty they carry with them, in a country where nothing is easy to win.

“With these achievements, I reached a goal that I had set myself since the first day I arrived in Italy: to win the Championship, the Cup and the Super Cup, and also to be Best Player and Top Scorer in this great football country filled with tremendous players, giant clubs and a very own football culture.

“I’ve already said that I don’t chase records, records chase me.

“For those who don’t understand what I mean by this, it’s very simple: football is a collective game, but it is through individual overcoming that we help our teams achieve their goals.

“It is always looking for more and more on the field, working more and more off the field, that records eventually emerge and collective titles become inevitable, some being the natural consequence of the other.

“So, I’m very proud with this fact that has been widely replicated in recent days: Champion in England, Spain and Italy; Cup winner in England, Spain and Italy; Super Cup winner in England, Spain and Italy; Best Player in England, Spain and Italy; Best Scorer in England, Spain and Italy; Over 100 goals for a club in England, Spain and Italy.

“Nothing compares to the feeling of knowing that I’ve left my mark in the countries where I’ve played, and that I gave joy to the fans of the clubs I represented.

“This is what I work for, this is what moves me and this is what I’ll always keep chasing for until the last day.

“Thanks to everyone who took part in this journey! We stand together!”
