Man City set to stick with what they have after missing out on Harry Kane… a move for Cristiano Ronaldo has been mooted but it will need player’s agent Jorge Mendes to pull a financial rabbit out of the hat to make it viable
- Manchester City refused to meet Tottenham’s £150m valuation of Harry Kane
- The Premier League champions are expecting to stick with what they have
- Those working on behalf of Cristiano Ronaldo have offered him to Man City
- Ronaldo was never part of the strategy for Pep Guardiola, with Kane the priority
- While a move looks unlikely at this late stage, nothing is being ruled out as of yet
Manchester City were informed on Wednesday morning that the quest for Harry Kane was over and are now expecting to stick with the same attacking options for the remainder of the season.
Those working on behalf of Cristiano Ronaldo have offered the Portugal captain to City as he seeks a move away from Juventus and are continuing attempts to make a deal work.
Ronaldo was never part of the strategy for Pep Guardiola – all eyes have been on Kane since Erling Haaland became unattainable – and it remains unlikely that the Manchester United icon will end up across town before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Jorge Mendes, who is simultaneously seeking new employers for Bernardo Silva, would need to pull a financial rabbit out of the hat for the move to be viewed as viable. Ronaldo currently earns in excess of £500,000 a week in Turin.
While the situation is frantic at this late stage, Mendes enjoys a strong relationship with City and if anybody can engineer a switch involving multiple clubs at short notice, he can.
City themselves maintain that Guardiola’s squad has been strengthened on last year.Â
Jack Grealish arrived for a British record fee after the departure of Sergio Aguero, whom was reduced to seven Premier League starts in the his final campaign due to injuries.

Guardiola opted for a false nine for the majority of the run-in, as they lifted the title and reached the Champions League final.Â
Gabriel Jesus, Ferran Torres and prodigious youngster Liam Delap are recognised strikers, while Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling can all operate through the middle.
The 83 league goals scored last term was, however, the club’s lowest return since Guardiola’s first season in charge.Â
Signing a striker was marked a priority going into the summer, even though the manager urged caution surrounding price tags in April.Â
Guardiola’s concerns bore out – Kane made clear his intentions to join but City’s board were met with refusals from their Tottenham counterparts.Â
