Mike Tyson says he’s fighting Lennox Lewis in September

According to Mike Tyson, with Evander Holyfield off the table, he is set for another rematch this fall.

In a recent interview with TMZ, Tyson was asked what will be his next move in the boxing world now that Holyfield is set to face Kevin McBride on the next Triller boxing event on June 5 and stated a fight with Lennox Lewis is the plan.

“I’m gonna fight Lennox Lewis,” Tyson said in Los Angeles.

When asked when the bout will take place, Tyson simply said, “September.”

The soon-to-be 55-year-old Tyson challenged Lewis for the WBC, IBF, IBO, The Ring and lineal heavyweight titles in June 2002 at the Pyramid Arena in Memphis. Lewis would emerge victorious with an eighth-round knockout. Lewis knocked Tyson down twice in the round, but a right cross sent Tyson to the canvas and the fight was waved off at 2:25 mark.

Should the fight come to fruition, it would be the first time in over 18 years Lewis will compete in the ring. Following the win over Tyson, Lewis (41-2-1) would go on to compete one final time a little over a year later and defeated Vitali Klitschko via sixth-round TKO in June 2003.

Tyson last competed in an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. at the first Legends Only League event in November. “Iron” was in phenomenal shape and looked to have done enough to win following the eight-round bout. In the end, the fight was scored a draw.
