Victor Osimhen has been backed to go ahead and make history in Italy with Gennaro Montuori, a staunch Napoli supporter tipping the striker to break several Serie A records.
The in-form Nigerian front-man has scored five times in his last seven appearances for Gennaro Gattuso’s team, netting in three Italian top-flight appearances on the trot.
Following his return from an injury that forced him off in the disappointing 1-1 draw with Cagliari, Osimhen will play when Napoli visit Spezia in the Serie A on Saturday.
Osimhen after the goal he scored against Cagliari last weekend has reached eight goals in the league and now, Montuori is tipping the center-forward for even bigger things.
During Tifosi Napoletani, a program broadcast on the Tele A broadcaster in Italy, Montuori said: “Victor Osimhen is a champion, I say it today and I will again in ten years.
“I am convinced that he will make history as well as Antonio Careca. We are talking about a very strong player destined to make the fortunes of the Azzurri for a long time.
“I am happy he is proving his worth,” Montuori concluded. But former footballer, Rosario Rivellino replied Montuori thus: “I disagree as Osimhen has not proved anything yet.
“And I will say more, the goal he scored against Cagliari is to be attributed more to Lorenzo Insigne than to the Nigerian center-forward. Osimhen still has to improve a lot.
“He is not yet capable of making a difference, he has several limitations. Surely, he should be praised for his speed in the fifty and hundred meters but not in the short term.
“He has to improve a lot.” Rivellino’s answer shocked the television studio, creating more than a few grumbles as Osimhen has been doing very well in his last few Serie A games.
