Erling Haaland is just one goal shy of Kylian Mbappé’s record of most UEFA Champions League goals before turning 21.
Haaland’s double against Sevilla on Wednesday took his UEFA Champions League total to 18 goals.
The Borussia Dortmund striker now trails Kylian Mbappé’s pre-21st birthday tally by just one goal. Haaland does not turn 21 until July and, with his club well poised in this season’s knockout stage, looks set to have plenty of further opportunities to reach yet another impressive milestone in his burgeoning career.
Mbappe, who scored a sensational hat-trick of his own this week, is 22.
Nigeria’s Obafemi Martins is fifth on the list. The former Nigerian international forward scored eight of his nine Champions League goals for Italian Serie A side, Inter Milan before he clocked 21. He scored the eight goals between March 2003 when he scored his first goal in Inter’s 2-0 win at Bayer Leverkusen to February 2005 when he scored in the Nerrazzurris’ 1-1 draw at Porto.
