Musiala Makes Champions League history

Bayern Munich’s rising star Jamal Musiala made Champions League history against Lazio on Tuesday night.

Musiala, who turns 18 in three days’ time, started for Bayern in their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie away to Lazio.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for Bayern after nine minutes, and Musiala got on the scoresheet 15 minutes later to make history.

The teenager struck a fine finish from outside the box, and in doing so made history by becoming the youngest English player to score in the Champions League at 17 years and 363 days old.

Musiala was born in Stuttgart, but spent most of his childhood in England and was involved in the Chelsea academy.

In July 2019, Musiala left Chelsea to join Bayern, and made his debut last June.

Musiala is elegible to represent both England and Germany, and has turned out for both at youth level.

The youngster has played for England Under-15s, U16, U17s and U21s, but has also featured twice for Germany U16s.

Though he has obviously featured more recently for the Three Lions’ youth teams, his rise through the ranks at Bayern could spark a contest for his international eligibility considering he has yet to feature for either England or Germany at senior level.
