Victor Osimhen made it a big, bang return to action after scoring his third Serie A goal of the season for Napoli in their 3-1 defeat of visiting Bologna at the Estadio Armando Maradona in Naples Sunday evening.

Osimhen’s return had been anticipated after he was given a clean bill of health to return to competitive football action by Neurosurgeon, Dr Alfredo Bucciero last Friday and the Nigerian rejoined the group in training that day and was listed in the squad list released by gaffer, Gennaro Gattuso for Sunday night’s game.

The former Lille player was subbed on for Dries Mertens on 53 minutes and scored 12 minutes later. His return will delight underfire gaffer, Gatusso who is believed will be leaving his post at the end of the season.

The Nigeria international, it would be recalled lost consciousness during the Atalanta versus Napoli Serie A game at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo at the end of February and missed the last three games for the Azzurri.

Osimhen has now made his fourth substitute appearance in 11 Serie A games since he switched the French Ligue 1 for the Italian Serie A last summer.

The forward will be hoping this will end a turbulent three months for him as he settles down in Naples to deliver for the team that splashed 70m euros to bring him to Italy.
