Two Leicester City players, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have been named in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Month for March.
Iheanacho was on fire in the month, scoring seven goals in the four games he played in the month under review while Ndidi produced near man-of-the-match performances for the Foxes in the four games he also featured in during the month under review.
The performances of the two Nigerians have not gone unnoticed and they have both been honoured by a notable outlet involved in statistical appraisal.
WhoScored named the Nigeria duo – both were on international duty for African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho during this past week – in their Team of the Month for March.
Even though there were less fixtures, says the website, there was still plenty of action to assess the Premier League stars from.
Iheanacho, named among the nominees for the Premier League Player of the month for March will lead a two-man attack with Tottenham Hotspurs’ Harry Kane in a 4-4-2 formation while Ndidi is named in a two-man midfield comprising himself and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
Whoscored gave Iheanacho a 8.02 rating and wrote thus about him: ”Kelechi Iheanacho scored in all three of his league appearances in March, finishing with five goals in total after capping the month with a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over strugglers Sheffield United.
Iheanacho unsurprisingly claimed a perfect 10 rating against the Blades, having also completed six dribbles, one fewer than he had managed all season prior to that. The 24-year-old has now scored as many non-penalty league goals as striker partner Jamie Vardy this season (6).”
For Ndidi, the website wrote thus: Leicester’s midfield star, Wilfred Ndidi, finishes March with the second most tackles and interceptions combined (20) in the Premier League. We have said it time and time again, but why no one has tried to prise Ndidi away from the King Power Stadium is bizarre. Not just at his best defensively in March, Ndidi even registered two assists in three league matches.
He registered six key passes in that time, half of his total for the campaign.
