Ndidi: I’m Happy To Play In The Same Team With Iheanacho

Nigerian international midfielder Wilfred Ndidi says he is delighted to be playing in the same English Premier League club with striker, Kelechi Iheanacho.

Ndidi and Iheanacho began their journey at the U-17 level before the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in United Arab Emirates.

While Iheanacho made the squad to the competition and emerged the competition’s best player, Ndidi moved on to sign for RCK Genk of Belgium in January 2015 from Nath Boys Academy in a €180,000 transfer deal.

Iheanacho would move to Manchester City after his exploits at the U-17 World Cup and the two players would reunite at Leicester City in 2017.

While Ndidi switched RCK Genk for Leicester City in January 2017, Iheanacho, deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester City joined the Foxes in the summer of that year.

Ndidi witnessed first hand how Iheanacho failed to replicate at the King Power stadium his goalscoring form at Manchester City where he scored 21 times and bagged eight assists in 64 games.

Ndidi is however delighted with the form of his compatriot and gave reasons why the 24 year old forward could only score 21 times in 91 games in all competitions in his first three seasons.

Iheanacho however became rejuvenated this outgone season, scoring 19 times in 39 games in all competitions.

“We all know Kelechi Iheanacho is a very good player. Right from the U17 he can score goals, he can make assists.

“As a footballer not getting much time playing can actually reduce your confidence but I’m very happy he’s back.

“I’ve always tried to encourage him, he’s always giving his best in training but you could see Jamie Vardy is always there, running round the pitch.

“I just feel if Kelechi had the chance he would have actually done something that time when there was no chance for him to actually showcase but now he’s doing everything I expected of him and we all know the kind of player he is and I’m very proud of him and happy to play in the same team with him,” Ndidi said on a television programme, Monday Night Football.
