Dr Alfredo Bucciero, the Neurosurgeon who examined Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen on his return to Napoli from Bergamo where he sustained a head injury in a Serie A game between his club,Napoli and Atalanta has certified the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner medically fit to resume competitive football.
Dr Bucciero told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli after examining the Nigerian Friday that it is now up to Gennaro Gattuso and the rest of the coaching staff to select Osimhen for this weekend’s Serie A game against Bologna at the Armando Maradona stadium in Naples.
“Victor is fine, he has always been well. From a clinical point of view he is in excellent condition. Now it is up to the Napoli coaching staff to decide if he can be called up”,he said and explained the accident against Atalanta.
“Victor’s fall was accidental trauma and it could happen to any player.I found him very well and very motivated. Now Napoli must manage his return that does not depend on me, normal resonance and excellent electroencephalogram (a test or record of brain activity produced by electroencephalography)”,said Dr Bucciero.
After this latest setback,Osimhen will be hoping to make a goalscoring return for Napoli for his 11th Serie A game of the season in which he has scored twice and provided one assist.
Incidentally,Osimhen scored his second Serie A goal against Bologna before injuring his shoulder in an international game between Nigeria and Sierra Leone at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in the middle of November,an injury that ensured he missed seven Serie A games before testing positive for Covid-19 which forced him to miss four more league games.
The Super Eagle returned to action against Hellas Verona last January, coming on in the final 25 minutes at the Marcantonio Bentegodi where they lost 3-1.
