AFCON – The Super Eagles will be approaching the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2022 African Cup of Nations with big smiles on their faces.
That is after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that they have paid the bonuses of Nigeria’s squad to the 2019 AFCON which Egypt hosted.
The Super Eagles finished the tournament as the third-best team after defeating Tunisia 1-0 in the third/fourth place play-off.
After the encounter, the NFF could not pay the bonuses of the players.
BBC’s Oluwashina Okeleji confirmed this announcement via his official twitter handle.
“The #Nigeria Football Federation (@TheNFF) has paid bonuses owed to the national team at the 2019 #AFCON in Egypt.”
The widely-travelled journalist tweeted that the NFF have finally paid the players that attended the 2019 AFCON their bonuses.
However, it is not particularly clear if coach Gernot Rohr and his back-room staff have also received their bonuses.
The announcement will certainly charge the player’s morale, most especially ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
The Three-time AFCON champions also recently qualified for the 2022 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
They did it in style after topping Group L consisting of the Republic of Benin, Sierra Leone and Lesotho without defeat.
