Nigerian EPL Top Scorers: Iheanacho Overtakes Martins, Sets Sight On Odemwingie

Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has moved to sixth on the Nigerian all-time Premier League top scorers chart with his brace against West Ham United Sunday afternoon.

The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner has now taken his tally to 29 goals in 135 Premier League games across five seasons, one more than Obafemi Martins who scored 28 times in 92 Premier League games across four seasons.

Iheanacho will now be hoping he can still score seven more goals this term to equal Peter Odemwingie’s 36 Premier League goals feat and move into joint fifth on the chart led by Yakubu Aiyegbeni with an unassailable 95 goals in 252 games across 10 seasons, followed by Nwankwo Kanu who has 54 goals across 12 seasons in 273 appearances and Efan Ekoku with 52 goals in 160 games.

Shola Ameobi who scored 43 times in 298 games is fourth.

Meanwhile, Iheanacho has also equalled his best goalscoring tally in a single season with his eighth of the season so far for the Foxes. The

Nigerian international forward last scored eight times in the competition in his first season (2015/16) for Manchester City.

He has now taken his Premier League tally for Leicester City to 17 in 89 appearances since he joined the club in the 2017/18 season from Manchester City where he scored 12 times in 46 games in the competition.
