NPFL: Kano Pillars Supplant Kwara United As League Leaders.

An eighth minute goal by Nyima Nwangwa was all Kano Pillars needed to jump to the top of the Nigeria Premier League table, supplanting pre-match week 12 leaders, Kwara United who could only draw 1-1 at home to Abia Warriors.

The Ilorin-based side had to rely on a 90th minute goal to force the visitors to the draw which ensured they relinquished top spot to the Groundnut Pyramid side who have 23 points with Kwara United second with 22 points, same as Enyimba of Aba who failed to hold on to Austin Oladapo’s 54th minute goal to draw 1-1 with Akwa United at the Enyimba international stadium in Aba.

The People’s Elephant who defeated Rivers United at the weekend to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup have played two games less than Pillars and Kwara United.

In other games played this evening, Rangers International of Enugu conceded a goal in the last moments of their tie against Wikki Tourist in Bauchi to drop to fifth on the log while their host are eighth with a game in hand.

Rivers United seems to still be suffering from the hangover of their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup by Enyimba as they lost 1-0 at Warri Wolves who bounced back from the 4-1 drubbing in Aba last weekend to Abia Warriors.

Plateau United and Nasarrawa United won 3-0 at home to Jigawa Golden Stars and Ifeanyi Uba respectively.

Meanwhile, Mountain of Fire (MFM) football club who are just above the relegation zone on negative goals difference will need all the anointing on Thursday when they travel to relegation candidate, Katsina United. A win for the home team will take them above the Olukoya Boys while the Sheffield United of the Nigerian Premier League, Adamawa United who have garnered just three points and winless in 11 games will host Adamawa United.
