Nigerian strikers Paul Onuachu and Kelechi Iheanacho were both on target Friday night for their respective clubs in Belgium and England.
While Onuachu opened scoring for his Belgian Jupiler League side, RC Genk in their 3-0 Play-off win against visiting Club Brugge, Iheanacho scored a late goal in Leicester City’s 4-2 capitulation at the King Palace stadium as they stumble in the Premier League top four race.
Onuachu scored on 57 minutes to set Genk on the path of victory and in the process brought his tally in the Playoffs to two in two games and 31 overall in the competition.
The gangling Super Eagles forward is the first Nigerian player to score 30+ goal in a Jupiler League season and the third all-time Nigerian top scorer after Joseph Akpala (76 goals) and Tosin Dosunmu (68 goals).
It was however a mixed fortune of sort for Iheanacho who scored his 11th goal of the season and first against Newcastle United in five appearances.
The Nigerian’s goal was however mere consolation as the Foxes were beaten 4-2 by relegation haunted Magpies.
Leicester City currently occupy the third position on the Premier League log but risk being pushed to fourth by Chelsea if they beat Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on Saturday while fifth place West Ham will move within two points of the Foxes if they beat beat Everton on Sunday at the London stadium.
