Paul Onuachu was the match-winner for KRC Genk which booked a place in the next round of the Belgian Cup after a 1-0 win over St. Truiden at the Luminus Arena on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles attacker found the back of the net three minutes to the end of the encounter to all but make sure that Genk made it through to the round of 16 in the competition.
Onuachu who was on from the start to finish of the match has now netted 23 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions for his Belgian First Division A club during the 2020/21 season.
Meanwhile, Genk spokesman has revealed that even top officials of champions, Club Brugge admitted Onuachu deserved to have won the prestigious Golden Shoe awarded to the best player in Belgium for the past year.
Belgian league leading scorer, Onuachu finished a distant third for the award. Genk press manager, Peter Morren said officials of Club Brugge told him that Onuachu deserved the top award.
“Our players have to be at least twice as good as the top club players to win the Golden Shoe,” said Morren. He also complained Genk do not enjoy as much media coverage as the likes of Club Brugge and Anderlecht.
