Victor Osimhen will be very much desperate to end his goal drought which currently stands at seven matches when Napoli face Atalanta in Sunday’s Serie A tie at the Gewiss Stadium.
Since his return, Osimhen has made seven appearances with four as a substitute but has so far failed to hit the goal-scoring form which made Napoli pay as much as £70m to get him.
The Super Eagles attacking sensation was out due to a shoulder injury he suffered while he was on international duty for Nigeria after which he tested positive for the coronavirus.
Osimhen fired blanks once again as Napoli beat Juventus 1-0 in a Serie match which was played at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last Saturday and he also played against Granada.
Meanwhile, Napoli coach, Gennaro Gattuso backed him after he put up another below par performance in a 2-0 loss to Granada in their Europa League round of 32 first leg on Thursday.
Osimhen was on for the entire duration of the contest and Eurosport rated him below average with a score of 4.5 over 10, the second lowest rank for a Napoli player in the encounter.
He will be hoping to quickly find his feet and start delivering for the club and the game against Atlanta could be perfect for his turn-around, having scored in the reverse fixture.
The Nigerian international has made nine appearances in the competition so far this term, starting six of the games. He has scored two goals and weighed in with one other assist.
