Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen made his comeback for Napoli in the 3-1 loss at Hellas Verona 73 days after he injured his shoulder in a 2022 African Nations Cup qualifier in Benin City, Nigeria.
Osimhen was subbed on for Andrea Petagna on 65 minutes with Napoli trailing 2-1 but the Nigerian was too rusty to make his presence count on the pitch at the stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
The Nigerian was delighted to be back playing again after his shoulder injury and the positive Covid-19 drama after attending a party in Lagos to celebrate his birthday.
The footballer wrote a message on Instagram: “We are united in victory as in defeat, happy to be back …”.
Osimhen will be hoping to start firing in the goals on Thursday when Napoli host Spezia in a Coppa Italia quarterfinal tie. He has scored twice and provided an assist in seven Serie A games for Napoli and will be seeking to score his first in the cup competition on Thursday.
