Ousmane Dembele to miss rest of Euro 2020

Ousmane Dembele out for four months after undergoing surgery in Finland

Ousmane Dembele is expected to be sidelined for the next four months after having undergone a knee surgery on Monday in Finland by Dr. Lasse Lempainen.
The Frenchman will miss out on Barcelona’s pre-season preparations as he will not be at Ronald Koeman’s disposal until late October.

Dembele suffered a knee injury while on international duty with France at Euro 2020, with his knock being a serious blow for both the player and the club.

The two parties were negotiating a potential contract renewal, as his current deal runs until June 2022. In the event that Dembele turned down their offer, Barcelona would be willing to put him up for sale in order to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Following his surgery, the option of cashing in on Dembele is no longer realistic for the Blaugrana, who will attempt to reach an agreement with the 24-year-old’s representatives.

After picking up the knock in France’s game against Hungary, Dembele immediately travelled back to Barcelona to undergo tests by the club’s medical staff, who decided that he should undergo surgery.

Dembele will have huge competition for a spot in the starting line-up upon his return, as Barcelona currently have as many as eight forwards in their squad, following the signings of Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero this summer.
