Pele: Mbappe can become my heir

Kylian Mbappe has already achieved more in his short career than most do in a lifetime, and Pele has admitted that the French star can become his heir.

Mbappe’s recent exploits at the Camp Nou were sensational as he netted a hat-trick, and with his contract at Paris Saint-Germain set to expire in June 2022, his future could be decided by an American sports-esque free-agent auction.

“Mbappe can become my heir, and I’m not kidding,” Pele told La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Sportweek.

“I can see a lot of myself in his ability to play with speed. He’s an attacker who thinks quickly.

“When the ball arrives, he already knows what to do, he already has in his mind where to go and how to guide the game to find the best solution. These are important characteristics in today’s football.”

This isn’t the first time Pele has spoken fondly of Mbappe, with the Brazilian praising the youngster’s intelligence and pace in April 2019.

“Mbappe, he is intelligent, fast and unpredictable. Many players are technically good, but he plays unpredictably,” he explained.

“He deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.”
