Peter Fury warns Anthony Joshua Oleksandr Usyk is “serious threat”

Peter Fury has claimed Oleksandr Usyk is “a serious heavyweight and a serious talent” ahead of Anthony Joshua’s fight against the undefeated Ukrainian.

Unified heavyweight champion Joshua is set to face Usyk on September 25 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While AJ was initially expected to face Tyson Fury this year in an all-British heavyweight unification bout, talks collapsed and a fight between Joshua and Usyk was booked instead.

Usyk, a former Olympic gold medalist, has only fought twice at heavyweight before, defeating Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora. Despite this lack of experience in the weight class, Peter Fury believes the Ukrainian stands a good chance against AJ and has claimed he wouldn’t be shocked if Usyk pulled off the upset in September.

“He’s [Usyk] very dangerous,” said Fury, who was in Tyson’s corner during the Gypsy King’s world heavyweight title triumph in 2015.

“It’s not a walk in the park. Forget cruiserweight. This guy, he’s had a couple of fights in the heavyweight division, he’s adjusted, he’s put the necessary weight on.

“He’s a serious heavyweight and a serious talent, so it will be a good fight.”

“Yes, of course he has [enough power to gain Joshua’s respect],” he told Sky Sports.
