Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit admits he’s been impressed by Jorginho at Euro 2020.
If Italy are able to beat England in the final at Wembley on Sunday, Jorginho – after winning the Champions League – is expected to be in the running for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
Speaking to Paddy Power, Petit said: “I’ve been impressed with Jorginho this season, especially the second half of the season with Chelsea.
“I wasn’t really convinced by him when he first came to England with Maurizio Sarri. He didn’t have the physical quality to do well in the Premier League, but he’s adapted well and tried to be a different player.
“He used to play on his quality, his technique and vision. Since Thomas Tuchel took over at Chelsea, he’s become better in every game.
“In terms of his consistency he needs to improve a bit more, and what I’ve seen at the end of the season, and with Italy, tells me he can do a lot more on the pitch. He can be a central figure for Chelsea.
“Could he win the Ballon d’Or? There are a few players who have also had a very good season, including some of England’s players, but he is one of the players who could win it.”
