Barcelona announced on Thursday that Gerard Pique has suffered a sprain in the internal lateral ligament of his right knee.
The Blaugrana have not specified when Pique will be able to return to action and stated that his evolution will be monitored by the medical staff.
Pique picked up a knock during Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Sevilla at the Camp Nou and after being treated on the sideline, he decided to return to the pitch, where he remained until the final whistle.
The 34-year-old centre-back returned to action recently after being sidelined for three months due to a ligament injury, one which he suffered in the LaLiga Santander game against Atletico Madrid back in November at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
This is another setback for Ronald Koeman, whose side was given a major boost after Pique’s return to action.
Pique netted a header late in stoppage time to send the match against Sevilla to extra time, where Barcelona scored a third to turn the tie around and clinch qualification to the Copa del Rey final.
