Rafael Nadal set for record-breaking dream exhibition event at Santiago Bernabeu

Rafael Nadal is set to play a potentially record-breaking exhibition at the Santiago Bernabeu, it has been reported in Spain.

The iconic home of Real Madrid is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, and they apparently want Nadal to play a tennis match on their new turf as part of a series of events to celebrate the completion.

The report claims Nadal has already accepted the invitation, although no news has yet emerged about a potential opponent.

Roger Federer is believed to be the main target, and should he reject the opportunity then approaches will be made to world number one Novak Djokovic.

Nadal and Federer set a new record for an attendance at a tennis match when they played an exhibition for the Roger Federer Foundation in Cape Town last year.

That record stands at 51,954, and it would expected to be well-beaten should the event take place.

The occasion would hold extra significance for Rafael Nadal, who is a life-long Real Madrid fan despite his uncle playing more than 200 matches for bitter rivals Barcelona, for whom Rafa was once a mascot as a child.
