Sam Sodje: ‘Iheanacho needs to leave Leicester’

Former Nigerian international, Sam Sodje has urged fellow compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho to leave Leicester City for another club where he will be guaranteed playing time.

Iheanacho had been expected to lead Leicester’s attack in Wednesday’s Premier League 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park with Jamie Vardy out after a hernia operation.

The Super Eagles forward have started just two of ten Premier League games he has featured in so far this term and he also failed to make an appearance against the Toffees.

Instead, the Foxes manager, Brendan Rodgers started Spaniard, Ayoze Perez in the clash with Everton and Sodje has just one piece of advice for Iheanacho which is to leave Leicester.

Complete Sports asked Sodje: “Should Kelechi Iheanacho leave Leicester City?” The former defender said: “Yeah, I think he needs to go to where he can play more regularly.

“Football doesn’t have time for you because any day that passes in football, you’re wasting your time, so you have to be getting games. Not because he is not a good player.

“But because football is funny. The manager might not fancy you or the system might not suit you. So, he has to go to somewhere the system suits him and the manager likes him and he plays more games.

“He cannot be sitting down at Leicester and not getting games. That is the only reason I will say yes, he should leave Leicester to where he can get more games,” Sodje said.
