Arbroath’s substitute goalkeeper Ali Adams has scored a screamer in his side’s Scottish Championship clash with Raith Rovers. The shot-stopper was tasked with making an impact in the final third due to the lack of players at the disposal of manager Jim McIntyre, and he did not disappoint.
Adams, who had not featured for his side prior to Saturday’s match, was named as one of the four players on Arbroath’s bench for their trip to Stark’s Park.
After falling behind to a goal from Raith’s Dylan Easton, Adams was thrown in at the deep end and brought on in the 56th minute to replace centre-back Aaron Steele. However, rather than slotting in as part of Arbroath’s back four, the change acted as part of a tactical switch.
The 32-year-old entered the fray to play up top, with his introduction being overshadowed quickly by Raith doubling their lead through Jack Hamilton. Though Adams soon threw his side a lifeline in sensational style.
With his back to goal, the ball bobbled into the direction of the ex-East Fife goalkeeper dropped his shoulder to open up a pocket of space thirty five yards out.
Adams then unleashed a rocket of a strike that dipped over the head of Raith No 1 Maciej Dabrowski, ricocheted off of the crossbar before bouncing over the line and sending the travelling Arbroath supporters into a frenzy.
