Semi Ajayi in win or bust game at Arsenal

 

Nigeria defender Semi Ajayi will make a quick return to the Skybet Championship on Sunday if his club, West Brom fail to win against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium.

West Brom are 19th on the 20-team Premier League table with 26 points and 10 points adrift of safety which means they must not only play to win on Sunday but must also pray Burnley who are 17th on 36 points also lose at another relegation haunted team, Fulham on Monday.

A loss on Sunday will confirm the Baggies’ relegation and Semi Ajayi will cease to be a Premier League player by the end of this month.

Ajayi has featured 29 times so far for West Brom in his first season in the Premier League and has started 27 of the games. If he starts on Sunday, it will be his 28th.

The Nigerian, a former Arsenal player who only made the Gunners’ squad list once as an unused substitute in the 2-1 loss to Southampton in a League Cup tie in September 2014 was in action when the Baggies hosted Arsenal at the Hawthorns in January. The game ended 4-0 in favour of Mikel Arteta’s men with Ajayi playing for the entire duration of the game.

Ajayi has scored twice and helped West Brom to just three clean sheets in 29 games so far this term.
