Simy Closes in on Obafemi Martins’ Serie A goal record

Obafemi  – Nigeria forward Simy Nwankwo netted his 13th goal of the season for Crotone who lost 3-2 at the Ezio Scida to visiting Bologna on Saturday. The goal was the player’s 23rd overall in the Serie A across three seasons in 72 appearances and it moves him closer to the 28 goals former Nigeria international striker, Obafemi Martins scored in 88 appearances in the competition.

Simy is now five goals shy of Martins’ 28 with 10 games left to play and football watchers may not want to bet against the gangling forward scoring more than five goals going by his proficiency in front of goals in the last few games.

He has scored six goals in his last four games and, with his non-invitation to Nigeria’s two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against Benin Republic and Lesotho, the former — player will be fresh for Crotone against erratic Napoli on April 3,2021 at the Armando Maradona stadium.

Simy has already equalled two goal record this term as his 13 goals is the most scored by a Nigerian in a single Serie A season, eclipsing the 11 scored by Obafemi Martins for Inter Milan in the 2004/05 season.

He is also Crotone’s top scorer in a single Serie A season with his 13 goals and joint seventh top scorer in the entire Serie A so far this term with .
