Crotone striker Simy Nwankwo could choose to sign for Salernitana rather than Lazio in the summer.
The Nigerian has been a shining light in a poor Crotone team this season. Despite his side being relegated weeks before the end of the season, Simy has bagged 20 Serie A goals so far.
This form has led to the widespread belief that he will leave the club come the summer and remain in the top flight.
Lazio are very keen on the striker, who would likely provide backup for Ciro Immobile. They’re not the only club interested though. According to Sky Sport Italia, newly-promoted Salernitana is an option that Simy is interested in.
It’s possible the forward may feel Lazio is too big of a jump and he won’t get enough regular football in the capital.
Simy is however not in any hurry to decide his future if what he tells the media in Italy is anything to go by.
”We’ll see what happens. At the end of the season we’ll see, if offers come in I’ll evaluate them with my agent, my family, but also with the club. We’ll decide what’s best for everyone, all together,’ he told the media.
He then spoke about his feelings toward Crotone, whose relegation to Serie B next season has been confirmed.
”Crotone is my home, I feel great here and I found an ideal environment, an exceptional warmth and an effect that gets inside you.
I wanted to give another emotion to these people, unfortunately we did not succeed.”
The 29-year-old Simy, whose contract expires with Crotone at the end of next season, has made 38 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2897 minutes. In that time, he has scored 20 goals and provided three assists.
The Nigerian forward has been one of the revelations of the season, being one of the few bright spots of Calabrian side’s season. Despite the team’s poor performances and low chance creation, Simy has still often managed to find the back of the net, attracting the attention of many clubs in Italy.
