The Super Eagles have began training ahead of Saturday’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Benin Republic in Port Novo.
Six players who arrived the team’s Eko Hotels nest Sunday took part in the training that began at 10.30am at the hotel’s fitness center.
The players are team captain Ahmed Musa who gaffer, Gernot Rohr says will not be involved in the two games; assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi and the Galatassaray of Turkey duo of forward/winger Henry Onyekuru and midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo.
More players including top scorer in the qualifiers with four goals, Victor Osimhen who was subbed on in Napoli’s 2-0 win at Roma on Sunday night, Alex Iwobi of Everton who will be delighted if he is featured in his preferred position, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye who was denied an eighth clean sheet of the season with a 93rd minute goal by Heracles Almeo and the home-based contingent led by Enyimba’s Anayo Iwuala are expected to arrive today with full training scheduled to begin tomorrow at the Teslim Balogun stadium.
The Super Eagles are too of group G with eight points from four matches and need three points out of the six on offer in the games against Benin Republic and Lesotho to book their flight to the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations holding next year in Cameroon.
