Solskjaer tips Shola Shoretire for big future at Man United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tipped Manchester United starlet Shola Shoretire for great things after the teenager made history against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.

Winger Shoretire became the youngest player to represent United in Europe, at 17 years and 23 days, beating Norman Whiteside’s 39-year-old record by 108 days.

Newcastle-born Shoretire came on with 14 minutes left, as United saw out the game with a 0-0 draw and booked their place in the last 16, the tie won in the first leg after an emphatic 4-0 victory.

Solskjaer heaped praise on Shoretire and said: “Shola has got some skills, he’s going to make a very good player here.

“It’s a platform (Thursday) tonight, just 15 minutes, but it’s something to remember for him at Old Trafford.

“Maybe he would’ve enjoyed it more with fans, because they give you so much energy. But I’m sure all the fans will see him soon.

“He’s a young kid we believe in, he has a great attitude, you can see the shape of him, physically, he’ll be an athlete, technically he’s very, very good, makes good decisions.

“We’re going to gradually feed him into this team and he’s grounded, got his feet on the ground, works hard in training, is a likeable boy and one we can see doing well in the future.”

Having made three semi-finals last season, Solskjaer and his players are determined to go one better and win a first trophy for the club since 2017.

“To get the semi-finals in any competition, you’re so close,” said Solskjaer.

“We’ve had three of them, we’ve lost one, so this group knows how it feels.

“We want to go further but when you’ve failed before, you want to do better.”
