Incoming Napoli coach, Luciano Spalletti is enthusiastic about the prospect of managing Nigerian goalscoring sensation Victor Osimhen in the Italian Serie A next season.
Spalletti who has been contracted as replacement for sacked former Napoli coach Genaro Gattuso is also thrilled and looking forward to having Osimhen form a strike partnership with Hirving Lozano in Napoli’s attack.
Top Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sports writes that Spalletti can’t wait to start work with Napoli adding that Osimhen will benefit greatly from the experienced coach who can bring the best out of the Super Eagles forward.
“In the talks he had with the president, the new coach said he was enthusiastic about having strikers of this caliber, with different characteristics which, however, go well together. One of the goals of the new coach is precisely to touch the current squad as little as possible,” reports the newspaper which also hails Osimhen’s qualities.
“The Nigerian, closing at 10 goals, – after the Haaland phenomenon – is the second youngest striker capable of going in double figures for two consecutive championships.
“Victor at only 22 years old, showed that as soon as he was able to train continuously he improved a lot both technically than in the tactical movements that the coach asked of him. His further physical strengthening and the experience of a football master like Spalletti should impose him not only in Serie A but also at an international level.”
Osimhen arrived Napoli in a record €70.00m move last season from French Ligue 1 side Lille but injuries hampered his performances for Napoli who on the last day of the season failed to secure a win against Verona which could have seen them play in the Champions League next season and which also led to the club sacking Genarro Gattuso who brought Osimhen to the club.
All eyes will be on the 22-year old to explode and fulfill his huge potential in Italy next season.
