No offer has been received yet for Nigerian international goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, according to Sparta director Henk van Stee.
Okoye was in outstanding form last season in his first season with the Dutch Eredivisie club with Ajax confirmed to have made enquiries about him.
The Nigerian kept 10 clean sheets in 28 appearances for Sparta Rotterdam, the joint third most in the league last season.
Okoye was also linked to AZ Alkmaar and Belgian Jupiler League side but van Stee has revealed no offer has come in for the Nigerian albeit Sparta is certain the goalkeeper will likely be sold this year.
‘We don’t have offers for Okoye yet although there have been enquiries,’ said the Sporting Director who ‘wouldn’t be surprised if he (Okoye) is prised away from Sparta this summer.’
‘We hope to get him back on loan for another season if he is sold this summer,’ said Van Stee.
Okoye, according to Van Stee is feeling very much at home at the modest Dutch Eredivise side after just one season at the club.
“He is enjoying himself here and is concentrating on Sparta. If something comes, it will come, but now he is only busy with Sparta.”
Sparta has opened its preparations for the new season with a practice win over Heracles Almelo and a 3-3 draw at AA Gent. The team of coach Henk Fraser will play its first league match against FC Utrecht on August 15.
