Former Nigeria junior international Isaac Success returned to Watford’s match day squad in the Hornets’ 2-0 defeat of Wycombe Wanderers Wednesday night in a Skybet championship tie at the Vicarage Road stadium.
Success last featured for Watford in February 2020 in the 3-2 loss to Everton in a Premier League game before going down with an archiles tendon injury which sidelined him for a whole calendar year.
The former Nigeria U-20 star featured in just five games for Watford last season and will be hoping to play a role in the club’s bid for an immediate return to the Premier League after their relegation last summer.
Success has played 65 times in all competitions for Watford since he switched from Granada in Spain and has scored just five times.
Meanwhile Nigeria vice captain, William Troost-Ekong returned to the starting line up in the defeat of Wycombe Wanderers. It was the former Udinese defender’s 23rd game in all competitions for the Hornets since he joined last summer from Italian Serie A side, Udinese. He has scored once and made 21 starts in 22 league appearances.
The Super Eagles was delighted with victory and went to his Instagram page to celebrate the three points.
‘3 points, clean sheet. Well-done lads! Congrats Jo Hungbo on your championship debut. We move,’ wrote Troost-Ekong.
Watford have 63 points from 34 games, same as Brentford who are occupying the second automatic slot for promotion on goal difference. Norwich lead the charge for promotion with 73 points,10 clear of both Watford and Brentford.
