The Super Eagles have moved up one spot in the latest FIFA Rankings, largely due to their 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
Nigeria defeated the Leone Stars to pick a ticket to the 2023Â AFCONÂ tournament with one game left in the qualifying series.
In the latest rankings released by FIFA on June 29, the west Africans move to 39th position but remain outside the top five on the African continent. Nigeria occupied the 40th position in the rankings released in April, but their win over the Leone Stars improved their rank by one, per FIFA’s official site.
Morocco remain Africa’s best team in 11th position, and it is not a surprise considering they finished fourth at the last 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt make up the top five in Africa. Senegal are 18th, Tunisia are 31st, Algeria are 33rd, and Egypt are 34th, Soccernet reports.
World Champions, Argentina, are an unsurprising first place, with France, Brazil, England, and Belgium occupying the second to fifth positions respectively. Croatia, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, and Spain complete the top ten.
