Concerns over the job security of Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo are growing. The Spurs boss has overseen consecutive 3-0 losses in the Premier League and there are fears he could be removed from his post early in the season.
Espirito Santo was appointed as Tottenham manager after a long and protracted search for a new head coach during the summer, with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager notably not among the club’s preferred candidates.
The Portuguese coach allayed early fears with three consecutive 1-0 wins to move top of the Premier League after three rounds of matches.
But a bizarre situation that saw three of his squad’s South American players forced to quarantine in Croatia soured the mood around the club during September’s international break, and the mood grew worse when Nuno’s side slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in their first game back.
A disappointing draw to Rennes did little to raise spirits, before a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea led to initial fears that the Spurs manager’s job could be under threat after just five games at the helm.
“I just feel he needs a little bit of time, but I’m just worried whether the time is there for him,” Spurs expert Alasdair Gold said on the Gold and Guest podcast.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s EFL Cup fixture against his former club Wolves, Espirito Santo acknowledged that there have been issues so far in his short tenure.
“We started the season with a lot of situations with players away and we built a way,” he said.
“We did quite well in the first matches. But of course, when things happen, [when] we have problems and results and performances don’t appear, the momentum goes. The good feeling goes away.”

“Our fans deserve much, much better than what we did against Chelsea on Sunday,” Espirito Santo added.
“I was really pleased with the first half [which finished goalless] but the second half was not good.
“My message is clear: we are working very hard and the players are committed.”
Spurs return to Premier League action with a north London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
