Tottenham’s superb XI with Harry Kane staying and Adama Traore if Spurs seal £40m transfer | Football | Sport

Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking forward to deploying Harry Kane in attack at Tottenham this season, with the 28-year-old confirming that he will be staying at the club via social media on Wednesday afternoon. The Spurs boss could reportedly look to partner Kane with Son Heung-min at the top of the pitch if Wolves winger Adama Traore joins in a £40million move before the end of the summer transfer window.

Express Sport takes a look at the Tottenham side that could feature under Nuno this season if he opts for a change in formation to extract the very best from both Traore and Kane.

Goalkeeper – Lloris

Hugo Lloris is widely expected to continue in his role as Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout the campaign.

Nuno has already given himself another viable option between the sticks with the signing of Atalanta stopper Pierluigi Gollini on a season-long loan deal.

However, the 26-year-old looks poised to play second fiddle to Lloris, who has started both of his side’s Premier League games this season.

He will be out of contract next summer, though, suggesting that a changing of the guard could soon be on the horizon.

Defence – Tanganga, Sanchez, Romero

Nuno has been widely tipped to introduce a 3-5-2 formation at Spurs in order to replicate the tried-and-tested system used on plenty of occasions during his time at Wolves.

In the event of an impending shift to a back three, Japhet Tanganga would likely come in on the right-hand side after impressing as a full-back in recent outings.

Davinson Sanchez has been one of Tottenham’s best performers so far this season and should occupy the central role, while new signing Cristian Romero could be deployed on the left.

The likes of Eric Dier and Joe Rodon will be able to provide cover at the back, with adequate strength in depth often proving to be a key component in any successful season.

Midfield – Traore, Skipp, Alli, Hojbjerg, Gil

If Spurs manage to push through a move for Traore over the next few days, he would likely be tasked with reprising a wing-back role to enable a two-up-top system.

The imposing Spaniard is also capable of playing through the middle when required, with his versatility able to provide Nuno with some food for thought regarding his tactical approaches and team selections.

Bryan Gil is yet to burst onto the scene at Tottenham but could be poised to occupy the left flank over the coming weeks and months, while Dele Alli appears to be making the No 10 role his own again as he looks to bounce back from his recent struggles.

Meanwhile, Oliver Skipp has impressed since returning from a successful loan spell at Norwich City and could strike up a fruitful partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park.

Attack – Son, Kane

Son and Kane could be primed to rekindle their formidable attacking partnership if Nuno opts to implement a 3-5-2 formation during his first season in charge.

The deadly duo scored 55 goals between them in all competitions throughout the previous campaign, with Son already off the mark after his opening-day winner against Manchester City earlier this month.

Kane was introduced as a late substitute during Sunday’s victory over Wolves but was unable to find the back of the net during his time on the Molineux turf.

He will be hoping to play an influential role for Spurs once again this season, with any lingering hopes of a big-money move to Manchester City now dead in the water.

Possible Tottenham XI (3-5-2) – Lloris; Tanganga, Sanchez, Romero; Traore, Skipp, Alli, Hojbjerg, Gil; Son, Kane.
