Transfer news: Jamie Vardy answers Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal query | Football | Sport

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has declared that he would reject hypothetical offers from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal in order to remain with the Foxes until the end of his career. The 34-year-old, who scored 17 goals in all competitions last season, has emerged as one of Leicester’s biggest legends since joining the club back in 2012.

Vardy was signed from non-league Fleetwood Town nine years ago for a transfer fee in excess of £1million and has not looked back since.

He played a crucial role in helping Leicester earn promotion from the Championship in 2014 and was again influential in leading the club to a remarkable Premier League title two seasons later.

The Sheffield-born marksman has been overwhelmingly successful in maintaining his strong form over the last few years, scoring an impressive total of 148 goals for the Foxes during his nine-year stay at the King Power Stadium.

A number of top sides have been linked with moves for Vardy over the course of his career, but he has remained loyal to Leicester despite the temptation of Champions League football and a big-money contract.

It appears as though he will continue to show no hesitation in sticking by the club that took a chance on his ability until his playing days are over.

Appearing on the new series of Sky panel show A League Of Their Own, Vardy was asked by comedian Jimmy Carr if he would consider a move to one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs to round off an exceptional career.

The former England striker kept his answer short, sweet and to the point, replying with: “No. I’d stay there [at Leicester] until the end.”

Vardy came agonisingly close to joining Arsenal in 2016 and even travelled to north London to discuss the move with Arsene Wenger.

The forward’s proposed move to north London was all but done, but he eventually decided to snub the three-time Premier League champions at the eleventh hour in order to pledge his loyalty to Leicester.

He has two years left to run on his current deal in the east Midlands, by which time he will have reached 36 years of age.

However, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers recently insisted that Vardy still has plenty left to give as a result of his impressive fitness levels and strong mental outlook.

“As you grow older, you are always learning,” said Rodgers. “Tactically he is very good in the game but he’s developing that side.

“He’s still very fit, he was one of our top performers in the running exercises over the course of pre-season. Him and one of our guys in his early 20s were the top two in the running statistics.

“It’s physical but it’s also mental willpower. That’s something he has in abundance.

“What’s been difficult towards the end of the past couple of seasons is that we haven’t been able to rest him as much as we would like at times so he hasn’t been able to be as fresh.

“But when he’s fresh, when he’s running and pressing, he’s such a threat for the whole game. He continues to defy everyone who thinks you slow down at that age, because he’s still so dynamic and so fast.

“Look at his physique, he’s so fit. He’s in a great place.”
