Trevor Lawrence sprains his ankle after Jacksonville quarterback was stepped on by his OWN player before twisting under his own bodyweight and writhing in pain – with the Jaguars star set for more tests on Tuesday

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence appeared to sustain a bad ankle injury from his own teammate when Walker Little stepped back onto him in Monday night’s game against the Bengals.

Lawrence’s own bodyweight then appeared to force his ankle to twist further, before Bengals player Trey Hendrickson fell on top of him, inadvertently compounding the injury further.

Lawrence at first stayed down in pain, tried to get up and then crumpled back to the ground and threw his helmet to the floor and punched the ground, with his face a mix of pain and frustration.

The initial concerns are that Lawrence has at the very sprained his ankle and, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Plus, the 24-year-old will have an MRI on Tuesday to learn the true extent of the damage.

‘I don’t have any information on Trevor, we are still evaluating him,’ said coach Doug Pederson after the game. ‘I don’t know until I talk to the doctors.’

He needed to be helped away from the field by two trainers but was moving very slowly and went immediately for an X-ray as the stadium fell silent.

The Jaguars said he was questionable to return with around three minutes left in the game but he didn’t return. Lawrence was clearly done for the night as he was filmed wincing in pain trying to move down the tunnel.

Curiously, Lawrence hobbled down the tunnel with the aid of two trainers rather than the team getting a cart for him to avoid risking aggravating the injury.

To add insult to injury for Lawrence, his team would go on and lose the game 34-31 to the Bengals in overtime.

Lawrence is on his first Jaguars contract after being drafted in 2021 and his current four-year deal is worth $37million.

The Jaguars headed into Monday night’s game 8-3 for the season with seven wins from their last eight. But if Lawrence is anywhere near as badly hurt as he looked, it would be enough to derail their hopes for the rest of the season.

C.J. Beathard made his way out onto the field for the Jaguars to replace Lawrence, with Beathard facing up against Jake Browning of the Bengals – themselves without first choice quarterback Joe Burrow.

It appeared to be a costly night for the Jaguars, who also lost wide receiver Christian Kirk on the first play of the night to a groin injury.

Little, who trod on Lawrence’s ankle, also then sustained a hamstring issue.
