Tyson Fury said he “could drink 14 pints” and still give Anthony Joshua a good hiding, as talks of a clash between the two rumble on.
Fury v Joshua has been in the pipeline for some time, but staging the showdown later this year was recently thrown into doubt after Fury claimed he is “nowhere near” signing a contract to take on his arch rival.
This is despite numerous updates over the past few months that have seemed to suggest that fight between the two this summer was on the verge of being confirmed.
Speaking to iFL TV, Fury said: “There’s a lot going on behind the scenes that can scupper a fight.”
“Nothing’s actually on until you’re in the ring, we’re nowhere near that at the moment… Do I think the fight will eventually happen? Yes. Do I think it’s imminent? No.”
While Fury v Joshua may appear some way off, that hasn’t stopped the former from throwing a few jabs in the media.
Speaking to MTK Global’s official channel, Fury said “I could drink 14 pints and still give AJ a hiding”.
The Gypsy King went on to claim he hasn’t been training at all lately.
“I’m not training anymore. I only need six/seven weeks anyway for these bums. I don’t need no big, great sparring partners for a bodybuilding type of guy, I just need the local binmen.’
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has hinted that the fight could occur sooner rather than later.
He told talkSPORT: “We’ve all agreed to announce any news simultaneously, so I can’t break a confidence I’ve agreed to.
“But what I can say is that everything is agreed, it’s an imminent announcement and we’ve got to work on a site, and that’s it.”
