UFC: Why Kamaru Usman vs Masvidal 2 is the ultimate revenge fight

UFC 261 is to take place this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida, at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

And there will be fans in attendance as welterweight champion Kamaru Usman defends his title against Jorge Masvidal.

Usman has already defended his belt against Masvidal, doing so in July of 2020 at UFC 251.

Then, he won by a unanimous decision and this time he’ll aim for the knockout.

These two fighters have history as the Nigerian’s victory over the American last July wasn’t without controversy.

Gilbert Burns was actually scheduled to fight Usman last year but he had to pull out because of a bout of sickness.

Masvidal stepped in but with just six days’ notice and after having had to lose around 20 pounds and after having had to fly to Abu Dhabi.

It wasn’t the best preparation for sure.

Usman has since claimed that Masvidal had a win-win situation at UFC 251, adding fuel to the fire.
“We’ve got this little street thug calling himself Jesus,” Usman said of Masvidal.

“He took the fight because it was on a six days short notice and it had a built-in excuse.

“He is still running his mouth talking about how he broke my nose. I’ll give you a full camp and we’ll see what you can do.”

Masvidal, meanwhile has stated that he will perform better with longer preparation time.

“I took your nose on six days, three weeks I take the belt, full camp I take your head,” he wrote on Twitter.

Despite this, Masvidal remains a big underdog for this weekend’s UFC 261 fight.

He will have a home Floridian crowd behind him, as Dana White has announced a crowd of 15,000 for the event.

But defeating Usman will still take something special
