Umar Sadiq has revealed that Almería’s promotion from the Segunda division into the Spanish La Liga Santander is much more important to him than even scoring goals.
Sadiq since joining Almería from Partizan Belgrade of Serbia has so far scored 18 La Liga SmartBank goals for the Spanish club which is currently chasing promotion.
“Individually, I am satisfied with the number of goals I have achieved but in reality, the most important thing for me, the primary objective is promotion to First Division.
“And we are going to fight for it even through the playoffs.” On the possibility of finishing as the top scorer in the Spanish Second Division, he said that is secondary.
“I do not continuously look at the Pichichi data, it would be good to achieve it but what I focus the most on is not so much in scoring but in the team doing it.
“I like to give assists and score points for the team. If I succeed and help the team reach its goal, I would be very happy with it,” the former Roma forward said.
Sadiq became Almeria’s all-time top scorer after netting a brace in a 2-2 La Liga SmartBank draw with Real Oviedo at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos on Saturday.
With his goals, Sadiq has become the Rojiblancos all-time top scorer after beating 21-year-old Uruguayan forward, Darwin Núñez with whom he jointly held the record.
