Umar Sadiq will be fit for Almeria’s Segunda (second) division game against Girona at the Estadi Montilivi on Sunday after the Nigerian returned to full training with his club,Almeria Friday morning.
The AlmerÃa striker exercised on Thursday away from the group due to a muscle discomfort but the former Nigeria U-23 star who scored four times in six games at the 2016 Olympics in Rio,Brazil rejoined the group on Friday morning and will now be available for selection.
Sadiq is Almeria coach,José Gomes’ main asset as they push for a return to the LaLiga. The former Partizan Belgrade of Serbia forward who joined Almeria last October has scored 13 times and provided five assists for Ramon Azeez’s former club in 24 appearances in the league and with 15 more games left to play,he looks a sure bet to eclipse the 16 goals Darwin Núñez scored in the 2019/20 season to emerge Almeria’s top scorer of all time.
The Nigerian has also scored twice in three Copa del Rey appearances as he not only set his sight on leading Almeria to the first division (LaLiga) but also emerge the division’s top scorer at the end of the campaign.
Sadiq is four goals behind Sporting Gijon’s Uros Djurdjevic who has scored 17 times this term from 26 games and two behind Raúl de Tomás of RCD Espanyol who has netted 15 times in 26 appearances.
The Almeria striker fired blanks when the two sides first met at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos in Almeria last November with the Nigerian featuring for the entire duration of the game.
Almeria are third on the log with 52 points from 27 games, five behind leaders Real Mallorca and one behind second-placed Espanyol with Kenneth Omeruo’s CD Leganes three points adrift in fourth position.
The two other Nigerians playing in the division,Kelechi Nwakali and Ramon Azeez are hovering in and around the relegation zone. While Nwakali,a 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning captain is languishing with his club,Alcorcon in the 20th position in a 22-man league with 26 points from 27 games,Azeez has helped Cartagena moved just one point above the drop zone. Both players found playing time hard to find in the first half of the season with their LaLiga clubs,SD Huesca and Granada respectively and had to move down a step to the second division on loan.
