Union Berlin will still have to honour this weekend’s Bundesliga engagement without the services of Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Ujah when they file out against Wolfsburg.
Awoniyi has been out for about three months since suffering a thigh injury during Union’s 0-0 draw with Schalke 04 in a league tie at the Alte Foersterei on February 13.
Union confirmed then that the Nigerian forward who has hit the back of the net five times and made an assist in 19 league appearances could be out of action for many weeks.
The Liverpool loanee has missed eleven matches across all competitions versus Freiburg, Hoffenheim, Arminia Bielefied, Cologne, Eintracht Frankfurt and Eintracht Braunschweig.
The five other fixtures Awoniyi was unable to take part in for his club were against Hertha Berlin, Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund and SV Werder Bremen.
There is more encouraging news on Awoniyi, however, who is now back in training but the striker is a huge doubt to face Wolfsburg in Saturday’s match at the Volkswagen Arena.
Awoniyi’s compatriot, Ujah is, however, completely ruled out of the game. Ujah is yet to make a Bundesliga appearance this season, having been nursing a long-term knee injury.
