Brazil defender Thiago Silva has had some harsh words for those Selecao fans who didn’t get behind the team in Saturday’s Copa America final defeat against Argentina.
The 36-year-old took to social media to blast those he felt backed Argentina instead of their own side.
In protest against the handling of the pandemic in the country and in disagreement with hosting the tournament, some Brazil fans expressed their desire for Argentina to win the final in the days leading up to it.
“Now it’s time to recharge our batteries and come back stronger,” wrote Thiago Silva on Instagram.
“For those who were against us, I hope you’re happy!
“But don’t then come pretending to be friends looking for anything, like interviews, tickets for your kids and friends, shirts or photos.”
The Brazil squad themselves had initially opposed staging the tournament in their country and there was even talk of a boycott.
They ultimately decided to play but released a statement criticising the tournament’s organisation.
