Victor Lindelof’s wife reveals Manchester United defender is wearing a heart monitor

Victor Lindelof has had to wear a heart monitor for two days after he was forced off with breathing issues in Man United’s win at Norwich, reveals his wife, but ‘everything seems to be OK’ – and his club say it’s NOT linked to their Covid outbreak

  • Victor Lindelof was forced off during Manchester United’s clash with Norwich
  • The Swedish defender appeared to be clutching at his chest as he left the pitch
  • His wife Maja Nilsson Lindelof has revealed he is currently on a heart monitor
  • Man United have insisted the centre back’s health issues are not related to Covid

Victor Lindelof is wearing a heart monitor and undegoing ‘a lot of tests’ after he was forced to leave Manchester United’s clash against Norwich with breathing difficulties, however the club have ruled out any link between his scare and the current Covid outbreak at Old Trafford.

The United defender was treated at the side of the pitch by the club’s medical staff, and was forced to be substituted as he appeared to be clutching at his chest.

His wife Maja Nilsson Lindelof has now revealed that the Sweden international is still undergoing treatment, but that he was OK.

United released their own statement on Tuesday morning stating that he had recovered ‘well’.

The outbreak of the virus at the club, and fears over the spread of the Omicron variant, has seen Tuesday’s Premier League clash with Brentford postponed.

United had closed their Carrington training complex and axed training on Monday in a bid to stop the spread.

Lindelof is currently wearing a heart monitor at home, and has undergone several tests to determine the cause of his discomfort.

And his wife opened up about the ordeal in her blog for Elle, describing the sight of her husband doubled over as ‘incredibly uncomfortable’.

Writing her blog, Maja explained: ‘It was a scary match to watch and Victor was very cut up afterwards.

‘Yesterday he did a lot of tests and has a heart monitor on for two days to make sure everything is OK.

‘[It was] Incredibly uncomfortable, especially when I did not get hold of him, which I always manage to.

‘It was a long time before I got hold of someone on the team who updated me.

‘Everything seems to be OK as luck would have it and we are waiting for answers to the last tests that will end tomorrow.’

A statement from United backed up the positive prognosis from his other half.

‘Victor is currently undergoing a series of precautionary investigations,’ the club said in a statement on their website. ‘However, he has recovered well from the episode he experienced in the match against Norwich.

‘All indications are that this is not linked to any COVID outbreak within the club.’

Worried United team-mates rushed to the Swedish defender’s aid when he dropped to his haunches under no pressure during the clash at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Medics also raced on to the pitch as the stricken Lindelof pointed to his chest, complaining that he was struggling to breathe.

One team-mate, David de Gea, said it brought memories of the Euros flooding back when Denmark’s Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 on the pitch as Denmark played Finland.

The Spain international also reference Sergio Aguero, who is expected to announce his retirement this week after he collapsed on the field while playing for Barcelona.

‘We’ve seen some players who are feeling unwell,’ he told Sky Sports afterwards.

‘We’ve already seen Eriksen, Aguero, so it’s difficult to see your player acting like this. It was better to change. I hope he’s completely fine. The game, the football doesn’t matter. It’s life, to be safe.’

It was not the only incident in Europe’s top leagues this weekend either, with Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski also forced off with breathing problems during his side’s defeat by Empoli.

The two incidents at the weekend follow five high-profile cases of players collapsing in recent months. Cardiologists are calling for more regular screening for players, but insists the recent spate of health issues is purely coincidental.
