Spanish LaLiga club of Samuel Chukwueze, Villarreal are currently undecided whether to let the Super Eagles winger undergo a surgery on his groin discomfort.
With Villarreal set to take on Granada tonight, coach Unai Emery is not ready to risk fielding the Nigerian international while considering the best treatment approach for the winger.
Tonight’s game would have been Chukwueze’s 18th LaLiga appearance this season which would have given him the chance to score his second goal this season as well as his second goal against Granada having scored against them in the 4-4 home draw two years ago precisely on August 17, 2019.
Speaking in his pre-match conference yesterday, Emery express his worry and indecision on whether to allow the prized Nigerian star to go under the knife or to continue with non-invasive treatment therapy.
“Chukwueze has groin discomfort and that did not prevent him from playing, but after the Celta Vigo game the discomfort is greater.
“We have stopped him to decide if he goes under the knife to solve it as quickly as possible or with other treatment if he can recover and return to the team if the discomfort subsides.
“so we will have to decide since he is an important player,” the former Arsenal coach said.
Chukwueze who is into his third season at Villarreal is still stuck at nine goals in 80 LaLiga appearances after firing blanks in Villarreal’s 4-0 thumping of Celta Vigo penultimate weekend.
The Nigerian was rested at the weekend in Villarreal 1-0 Copa del Rey win over Tenerife.
